Derek Jeter

Derek Jeter is the current starting shortstop and captain of the New York Yankees. Born on June 26, 1974, Jeter was a star baseball player in high school and entered the draft right after 12th grade. He has said that he plans on going back to college sometime and getting a degree. That probably won’t happen until his pro career is over, as he is a prominent part of the Yankees organization. Jeter is adored among Yankee fans and is known as one of the most consistent players in the major league. He is a role model to many and he lives up to that with good behavior both on and off the field.

Jeter has had remarkable success during his days in the major league. He won the Rookie of the Year award in 1996, the same year that the Yankees won their first World Series in 15 years. The Yankees with Jeter would go on to win three more championships in the next four years. Jeter has won three gold gloves and been selected to eight All-Star games so far and has sported an impressive .317 batting average in his eleven year career. Despite all of his accomplishments, he is yet to earn an MVP award.
